Maokai Jungle Tips and Tricks

  • Maokai boasts a wealth of crowd control, rendering him an exceptional ganking jungler, even as early as level two.
  • While walking around the map, always use Sapling Toss to gain free vision around important areas.
  • Maokai's primary role revolves around using crowd control on high-priority targets and peeling for his carries.
  • Given his tanky nature, Maokai lacks the damage output required for swiftly tackling Herald, Dragon, and Void Grubs. Thus, it's advisable to prioritize these objectives when his team holds lane priority, enabling them to provide assistance.
  • Nature's Grasp can be used to start fights or to get away from them. Knowing when to use it is really important for winning key teamfights.
  • If you use Twisted Advance right when an enemy uses Flash, you'll still dash towards them. Sometimes this can be helpful, like when they Flash over a wall and you can follow them. But other times, it can be risky, like if they Flash under their turret and trap you there.

Pro Maokai Jungle Path â€”full clear with a lvl 3 gank from a Raptor start

  • The Pro Maokai Jungle Path is a route that optimizes Maokai's abilities for a full clear but with an early level 3 gank. Start by unlocking Bramble Smash as your first ability. This will provide you with AoE damage and crowd control to efficiently clear the Raptors without needing a leash. As you clear Raptors, you'll reach level two and unlock Sapling Toss. Next, move to the Red Brambleback camp. After Red Brambleback, proceed to the Krugs camp and upon finishing the Krugs camp, you should reach level three and unlock Twisted Advance. Twisted Advance is a valuable tool for ganking, providing gap-closing and crowd control. Proceed with a level three gank onto the lane connected to your Krugs. After the gank, recall back to base to replenish health and mana, and purchase items if necessary. Once you return to the jungle, proceed to clear the Murk Wolves, Blue Sentinel, and Gromp camps on the Blue side. Reaching level four, upgrade Bramble Smash and head to the river to secure the Rift Scuttler after which you can look for opportunities to gank a nearby lane.
  • This Pro Maokai Jungle Path emphasizes a methodical approach to clearing camps and utilizing ganking opportunities to apply early pressure on the map.

Beginner Maokai Jungle Path â€”full clear with a Red Buff start

  • The Maokai Beginner Jungle Path offers an easy-to-follow route starting with Red Brambleback, allowing for a leashless clear if needed. Start with Bramble Smash as your first spell and kill the Red Brambleback as this will level you up, unlocking Sapling Toss. Move to the Krugs camp after clearing Red Brambleback, aim to hit multiple Krugs with your saplings to maximize damage. Proceed to the Raptors camp after clearing Krugs, leveling up Twisted Advance at level 3. Move towards the Blue Buff side of the jungle and clear the Wolves camp followed by the Blue Sentinel and Gromp. This will level you up to level four, upgrading Bramble Smash. Now it's time to head towards the river to check for Rift Scuttler availability and potential gank opportunities in nearby lanes, utilizing Twisted Advance to engage on enemy champions and set up successful ganks for your team.
  • This Maokai Jungle Clear is really easy to do and performs well even in high rank games.
